Why Killing Amaravati, a National Disaster?
Why Killing Amaravati, a National Disaster? - Sai Nuthakki
Amaravati, a green field city initiated for the first time
in 60 years in India, as a new capital of Andhra Pradesh has a tremendous potential
to become a national asset and a crown jewel of urban India if developed as
planned.
It is going to be a first city in India to compete with
other south east Asian majors like Singapore and Hong Kong with world class infrastructure,
near zero pollution, availability of natural & human resources to attract global
investments and talent.
Today all the major cities in India are going thru a massive pressure on their infrastructure to support growing population migration towards
these cities. It is causing urban chaos with dangerous pollution levels, lack of
affordable housing, clogged transportation networks, lack of water, power and other basic
amnesties for majority population impacting people’s basic living conditions
apart from bleeding national GDP. A world class city like Amaravati will help
in reducing the pressure on some of these urban centers in India.
People are moving towards urban centers for employment and opportunities
all over India and the government needs to provide more urban growth centers. A
fully developed Amaravati can be a model for future urban growth and planning
in India.
Amaravati provided the best model in the country for public
private participation in urban land acquisition thru it’s unique, first in the
nation, concept of land pooling. 33,000 acres of agricultural land has been acquired
peacefully from 30000 small farmers without spending a dime.
But the present chief minister of Andhra Pradesh is on
killing spree to eliminate already semi-finished Amaravati by creating three
capitals and moving all core functionalities to Vishakhapatnam in the north
east corner of the state for political gains. This decision has no merit from
any point other than politics and so far he could not come up with any valid reason that can stand legal grounds for his action.
His actions created an ambiguity in investment environment and will have a major blow on country's investment rating and global investor confidence.
This madness of destroying a national model asset for political
gains ignoring all the valuable benefits it can render, need to be stopped
right away. Center must intervene immediately to protect the interests of AP
and the country by mounting pressure on Jagan government to continue Amaravati as the capital of Andhra as legally proclaimed earlier and speed up all the development activities in the
capital city region. Strong constitutional measures must be taken to prevent politicians
from using relocation of capitals and courts for political gains.
This is the result of electing people with known fraudulent activities and vengeance mental state. The central government should intervene and stop this madness. Unfortunately the people are divided on caste lines and the movement is not getting required support to force a change in the thinking of the A1. Only hope is divine (be it Lord Balaji or Jesus) intervention. Praying for the best.
